Babies Babies Babies!

Oops, I did it again

Don't worry, this isn't another post about Britney's latest parenting goof. This one is about me. We have two kids -- Jared, who is pushing six and Sara who is three-and-a-half. For some people, that would be two too many while others would say that we have it just right, one of each. And then, there are those who would scoff and say we've barely gotten started on a proper family.

Well, for those last folks, don't worry, Rachel is currently working on our third.

Yes, our kids, who are definitely winning, are getting reinforcements. Well, reinforcement, anyway. The doctors swear there's only one in there. So far, what we know is that it likes music and seems determined to continue the family tradition of being a tap dancer. Oh, and we're pretty sure it's human. Well, reasonably sure, anyway.

So now, if you're in one of the first two categories I mentioned, you're probably asking "Why?" Well, the long and the short of it is that I was running out of things to write about and this will provide some much needed inspiration. Actually, Rachel really had her heart set on having a third kid and, since I had no major complaints -- if you're drowning, does it really matter whether it's in 20 feet of water or 2000? -- we decided to go for it.

Truth be told, it took us longer than we had hoped to get things going -- so long, in fact, that we had just given up on the idea. So far, everyone has been pretty positive about it. Rachel's mom is excited -- that was our biggest fear, that she wouldn't want to help with yet another newborn. She does have, after all, ten grandkids already. The woman who takes care of Jared and Sara during the week is game to take on an infant as well, which was our other big concern. So, it looks like everything is hunky-dory on the childcare front.

The downside? Well, diapers, for one, but they do have their positive aspects. For another, we've pushed back our freedom by four years. We've got another two years of pre-school to pay for, not to mention college. And, of course, I'm no spring chicken. In fact, I'm an old man with a bad back, and now I have to tote another kid around.

So why would we do this? Well, for starters, kids are kinda cool. They can actually be a lot of fun, believe it or not. Plus, it means more free labor when they get older, as well as other benefits. And, we get another kid with which to share our love. And, as I've long believed, the more love you give, the more love you have to give.
